Cross Country Skiing in Northwest Montana

Nestled in the Swan River State Forest just 7 miles south of Swan Lake, Swan Mountain Guest Ranch offers groomed cross country skiing runs for beginning, intermediate and advanced skiers, ice skating, and mountain trail access on over 30 kilometers of trails under lease with the state of Montana. 

Cross country skiers look for different attributes in ski areas and resorts. Swan Mountain Ranch is designed to be an intimate experience. We will never become a large commercial operation with fancy gift shops, 5-star restaurants, etc. The course has some great terrain. The one thing that you can count on with Swan Mountain Ranch is great snow. We are in the path of a wet zone, and if there will be any snow at all in the valley, we’ll get the lion’s share of it. The fact is when other resorts have marginal conditions, we often have an abundance of snow. We also focus on trails that will be fun to beginners and advanced skiers alike. 

Pat & Joanne Tabor have enjoyed cross country skiing their whole lives, and have had the privilege of visiting many trails throughout the west. The Tabors designed their resort at Swan Mountain Ranch to emphasize the elements of the cross country skiing experience which they enjoy most: warming huts, rest stops, clear trail markings with readable maps, a variety of terrain with classic as well as skating trails, high-quality trail grooming and additional winter activities for non-skiers staying at our Guest Ranch.

Lodging at Swan Mountain Guest Ranch is very luxurious and unlike other venues in the area. Our most popular lodging option is our private guest cabin, where several families or small groups (up to 15) can stay with the entire cabin (and often the entire resort) to themselves.
