Other Winter Activities in Montana - Ice Skating, Ice Fishing, Snow Shoeing

Swan Mountain Guest Ranch offers other Montana winter activities for guests who are accompanying cross country skiers but who don’t ski and for skiers who want to take a break from skiing.

Ice Skating

Swan Mountain Ranch offers skating on the 1 & 1/3 acre pond nearby when the conditions are right, so bring your skates! Ice-skating is included for lodge guests and is $4 per adult, $2 for youth for daily use.

Ice Fishing

Swan Mountain Guest Ranch can arrange for you to ice fish on the pond for Cut Throat trout and can arrange to take you to other locations for other species. Prices vary. Just call us if you are interested in arranging an ice fishing excursion.

Snow Shoeing

There are a number of great snow shoeing trails near our ranch and Swan Mountain Guest Ranch has a few pairs of snow shoes for rent. Additionally we can guide you for a snowshoe adventure into the mountains or to visit nearby lakes. Let us know what your ideal trek would be and we’ll put it together.

Dog Sledding

We have teamed up with Base Camp Bigfork to bring Swan Mountain Ranch Guests an unparalleled Dog Sledding Experience. All of our trips are customized to the wants, needs, and abilities of the participants.

Dog Sledding 101: 1-4 people $75/adult. For those with limited time or who just want a taste of dog sledding. This is a shortened version of our Half-Day Excursion. 1 1/2 - 2 hours which includes about 45-60 minutes of dog sledding.
Half or Full Day Excursions: 1-4 people $115/adult. This option is perfect for learning the basics of dogsledding, tour of the dogyard, harness and even mush your own team of dogs on a variety of terrain. • Full-Day Adventures: 1-3 people $195/adult. A full day of everything dogsledding. All that the half day adventure includes but more time out with your team. Full day adventures: allow for getting further into backcountry, and include a trail lunch.
Day with the Dogs: 5-10 people $375/ flat rate. Get a group of friends or family together to experience riding or driving your own sled.Participants will take turns touring open terrain by dogsled, while the rest of your party enjoys a cozy campfire. 4 hours.
Winter Camping by Dogteam: 1-4 Adults. Customized backcountry trips available. Due to the nature of these trips and the skill level of the participants, details are variable.Call for info.
Skijoring WITH INUIT DOGS: Pair up with one of our friendly Inuit dogs to enjoy a tow and travel at the speed of dog. For the experienced x-country skier interested in giving this unique sport a try.

Mountain Lion Photo Safari

Swan Mountain Guest Ranch through a sub-contract with a local expert hounds man is able to offer guest a unique opportunity to “tree” a mountain lion so you can take pictures. Prices depend on number of people wanting to participate. Call us if you are interested in a mountain lion photo safari.
